Here is a story that everyone can read online, either on a phone, tablet, or computer.  Follow the link above to read the book.

After reading the story, think about what you would want for an imaginary pet.  Print and complete the activity page linked above. Tell all about your imaginary pet.  You can draw a picture of your imaginary pet, or if you want to do the extra project describe below, add a photograph or post the photo on the Library facebook page as a comment in the post about this activity.

Return this completed sheet to the library before July 10th to have your name entered in a prize drawing*, which will be held at the end of the summer reading program.

Extra project, if you would like to have more fun with this:

Imagine your pet and bring it to life as a work of art.  At the end of this story, there is a suggestion to paint your own pet rock.  Other options would be to use a stick, a pine cone, an empty toilet paper tube, or just a sheet of paper….whatever you can think of, as the starting block for your imaginary pet.  Then add decorations to bring it to life.  You could paint, glue feathers, glue yarn, add google eyes, glitter, whatever supplies you have available.   Please ask your parents to share a photo of your pet on the Library’s Facebook post about this activity.

Library staff will select the most original pet designs from posts on our Facebook page for extra entries into the prize drawing* at the end of the program.

*must be registered for our summer reading program to qualify for a prize
